Whytemead Governing Body

The Governing body at Whytemead Primary perform a vital strategic function in the running of the school.  In this challenging and rewarding role we strive to uphold the schools principles of creativity; achievement; citizenship and healthy living by agreeing the school's direction with the headteacher and senior leadership team.

As "critical friends" we ask challenging questions, ensuring that policy is never just accepted but instead developed to become more innovative and effective over time.  This way we can continue to promise that children can reach their full potential.

As part of this we perform specific functions.  These include –
  • Determining the aims and curriculum policy for the school.
  • Allocating the school budget so that national and local requirements, as well as the children's needs are met.
  • Approving the school management structure; participating in interviewing and appointing staff where required.
We attend meetings at the school at least once every half term and enjoy taking part in a range of other school activities including joining classes on school trips; reading with children and other classroom visits.

We are made up of teaching staff, parents and representatives from the wider community.  Individually we have a wide range of skills that go together to make an effective team.  Collectively we all share a strong commitment to the school and children of Whytemead, working to ensure that the children become the best they can be.
