School Hot Dinners

Here at Whytemead Primary School, we follow government guidance on healthy eating and encourage all children to eat a balanced diet that provides appropriate levels of nutrition to enable good levels of concentration on learning.

School Dinners

At lunchtime, children can choose between a packed lunch from home or a hot meal. All children eat in the lunch hall and we have 2 lunch sittings. Children eat with the children in their class.

Our school meals are provided by & can be ordered online Chartwells, an external school meals provider used across many schools within West Sussex. Chartwells have produced several documents to better help parents understand the services that they offer. Please see the links below

Snacks and Drinks

All children have access to water in their classrooms and we ask that all children have a clearly labelled water bottle for use in school. We do not allow drinks other than water during the school day. For morning breaktime, all children should be sent to school with a snack. We do request that these are healthy snacks such as a piece of fruit, carrot sticks or slow release carbohydrate based products. Children are not permitted to have high sugar, crisps or chocolate based snacks. For more information on healthy snacks please visit the NHS change4life website.

Free School Meals Eligibility

We want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can. Healthy & nutritious food has positive health benefits and can help pupils establish healthy habits for life. Healthy food can also help to improve pupils' readiness to learn.

Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals.
