MP Visit
On Friday 14th January 2022, year 5 and 6 invited our local MP, Tim Loughton, to our school. As one of the one of the founding members of the EYE Project (Young and Engaged, Supporting Sustainability in Schools), Mr Loughton was able to discuss how our local constituency is making positive changes to help combat climate change. We were pleased to know that Adur and Worthing at are the forefront for making changes to ensure a brighter future for all. Some of their most recent initiatives include:
- The introduction of a kelp farm off the coast of Shoreham. If the kelp farm is a success, this initiative with be implemented in other areas along our coastline.
- The Rampion Windfarm is being expanded. This means more sustainable energy can be provided to local homes and businesses.
- A hydrogen hub is being built in Shoreham Harbour
- Rewilding projects in Horsham and Shoreham Airport
Mr Loughton had recently attended the COP conference and was able to inform us that Britain has pledged to support poorer countries with environmental improvements because we know climate change is a world issue not just bound to our own country. We all need to work together.
As we have done in the past, Whytemead eco warriors will be attending our local Eco Summit later in the year and have been looking into ways of how we can be more eco-friendly citizens.
Mr Loughton also explained what it means to be a local MP and did answer some difficult questions; he assured us that although he likes parties, he did not attend any with Boris Johnson.
